Missing teeth and surgical care
05Implants & dental surgery
Extraction and implant treatment are not one-size-fits-all. The dentist needs to understand the tooth, bone, gums, nearby structures, medical history, and your replacement goals before recommending surgery or giving a complete quote.

When this service may be discussed
Implants & surgery
- A missing tooth and questions about implant, bridge, or removable options
- A tooth that may be too damaged to restore
- Pain, swelling, or repeated problems around a wisdom tooth
- Planning surgery where bone volume or nearby nerves must be assessed
What happens during care
4 clear stages
- 01
Consultation and imaging
The dentist reviews your symptoms, health history, tooth condition, bone, gums, and the imaging needed for safe planning.
- 02
Compare the options
You discuss whether the tooth can be saved, what replacement choices exist, and the benefits, limits, costs, and timelines of each.
- 03
Surgical stage
If surgery is appropriate, the procedure, anaesthetic, expected recovery, medicines, and warning signs are explained before consent.
- 04
Healing and restoration
Extraction sites are reviewed as needed. An implant usually heals in bone before the abutment and final crown are fitted.

What can change the plan, price, or duration
What a clear quote should explain.
- 1
An implant quote should separate the implant fixture, abutment, final crown, imaging, grafting, temporary tooth, and follow-up care.
- 2
Bone grafting or a sinus lift may add cost and healing time; it should never be assumed before imaging.
- 3
The cheapest replacement option is not always the best fit for your health, timeline, and maintenance needs.
Common questions
Implants & surgery
Is the implant crown included in the implant price?
Not always. Ask for a written breakdown covering the implant, abutment, crown, imaging, surgical extras, and follow-up.
Can an implant be completed in one visit?
Placement may happen in one surgical visit, but the implant commonly needs months to integrate with bone before the final tooth is attached.
Does every wisdom tooth need removal?
No. A wisdom tooth that is healthy and not causing problems may be monitored. The recommendation depends on symptoms, position, nearby teeth, and imaging.
